wow what a coincidence they all have the same answer

The additionally vexes me because every fucking question is from the last ten to fifteen years of gaming, and from highly popular games.

Try not to highlight your own lack of experience in a hobby before questioning that of others.

Because Pokemon shouldn’t force you to pick a gender you may not associate with.

    image

Oh, just STOP WITH THIS. Do you know how complicated it would be if the game designers had to account for all of the different identity options and every single person’s beliefs or lifestyles? What would the character even look like? Would you have to design your own? What if you wear a hijab? What if you’re in a wheelchair? What if you’re black? There are 1000000 factors where people aren’t properly represented in ANY game. Wanna know why? When you’re playing, it doesn’t have to represent YOU directly. I’ve played as a male and female multiple times. It’s roleplaying. The character doesn’t physically resemble MOST of the people who play. Grow the fuck up, or go to school for game development and make a difference instead of whining on Tumblr and demonizing fucking Pokemon

    I LOVE YOU

    THANK YOU YOU BEAUTIFUL PERSON

Yeah, how dare people want proper representation! Oh…wait….You’re being an asshole, you know that?

There’s a difference between representation and making things a thousand times more complicated than they need to be.

As stated above, it is impossible for Pokemon (and most video games, for that matter) to include all the gender identities, sexualities, ethnicities, etc. in games. It’s just too much programming that adds nothing to the game. Representation is fantastic, but it just isn’t fucking possible to represent everyone. Besides; when you play a video game, you’re not necessarily playing as yourself. When I turn on Bioshock I stop being a little white girl living in 2013, and I become an adult man living in 1960. Video game characters don’t have to reflect who you are in real life. Because it’s a character. In a video game. Which is what the lovely person above was trying to explain.

Can’t we all just agree that Professor Oak lives in a gender-binaric society and move on?

Professor Oak reliably forgets the name of his own grandson, I think it’s very unreasonable to expect a senile old man to grasp the subtleties of gender identity.
